Q: Do international students receive medical insurance?
A: Yes. All international students studying with WSD International are required to have comprehensive medical insurance coverage through Ingle Lewer International Insurance. Medical insurance is mandatory regardless of the length of study in Canada. Coverage begins when students leave their home country and continues while they are studying abroad. The insurance plan includes coverage for new and emergent illnesses and accidents, including:
- Hospital and medical services
- Prescription drugs
- Extended health benefits
- Accidental death and dismemberment coverage
Q: What support is available if students are struggling?
A: WSD International works closely with schools and WSD homestay families to help international students adjust successfully to life in Canada. Students are encouraged to speak with program staff, such as their WSD International Education Support Teachers, Homestay Coordinators, and school staff, whenever they need academic, social, or emotional support. WSD International is committed to helping students feel safe, supported, and connected throughout their educational journey in Winnipeg. In addition, the Ingle Lewer International Insurance includes access to multilingual mental health support services and wellness resources available 24/7 for students
Q: Who do students contact in emergencies?
A: In case of an emergency, students should immediately contact emergency services by calling 911 if urgent medical, fire, or police assistance is required. For insurance-related emergencies, hospitalization, or urgent medical assistance, students may also contact Ingle Lewer International Insurance using the emergency contact information provided in their insurance documents. International students participating in the WSD International Homestay Program will also be provided with after-hours emergency contact numbers for additional support outside regular office hours.
Q: Is counselling available?
A: Yes. International students have access to support services through their schools as well as additional wellness and mental health resources available through the Ingle Lewer International Insurance. These services may include access to professional multilingual counsellors, peer support platforms, and virtual mental health resources designed to help students manage stress, adjustment, and personal challenges while studying abroad.
Q: How does WSD International support international students' well-being?
A: Students' well-being is an important part of the WSD International experience. Schools, WSD homestay families, and WSD International staff work together to help students feel safe, supported, and connected both inside and outside the classroom. WSD International encourages students to reach out whenever they need assistance during their studies in Winnipeg.
Q: What happens if international students get sick?
A: If international students become sick while studying in Winnipeg, WSD homestay families, custodians, and WSD International staff help students access appropriate medical care and support. Depending on the situation, international students may visit a clinic, doctor, or hospital. International students are covered through the required Ingle Lewer International Insurance plan for eligible medical needs and emergencies. Ingle Lewer also provides access to telemedicine and health support services, helping students connect with healthcare professionals when needed.
