Withdrawals, Cancellations and Refund Policy

*Application Fees, Health Insurance, and the required deposit (if applicable) are non-refundable.
Tuition Fees
- Students who cancel their program before arriving or before September 30 of the school year will receive a full refund, minus:
- a non-refundable $2,000 deposit
- a $400 administrative fee
- Students who are not granted a study permit/visa by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) before the program begins will receive a full refund of tuition fees paid, minus:
- a non-refundable $2,000 deposit
- a $400 administrative fee
IRCC documentation must be provided with the refund request.
- Students who are not granted a study permit/visa by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) before the program begins may choose to defer their start date to the next semester or academic year.
- Tuition fees will be carried forward
- A $400 deferral fee will apply
IRCC documentation must be provided with the deferral request.
- Students who choose to cancel participation in the WSD International Education Program before the start of a semester or program start date will receive a full refund of tuition fees paid, minus:
- a non-refundable $2,000 deposit
- a $400 administrative fee
Written notice must be provided by: - May 30 for Full Year and Semester 1
- November 30 for Semester 2 / January intake
- Students who withdraw after the school year has begun and within 30 days of the first day of classes in each semester will receive a 50% refund of tuition fees paid.
- No refund will be issued to students who withdraw more than 30 days after the first day of classes in each semester.
Change in Legal Status
Examples of a change in legal status include:
- becoming a Canadian Permanent Resident
- a parent receiving a work permit
- a parent receiving a full-time study permit
- If the change in legal status occurs on or before September 30, students will receive a full tuition refund, minus:
- a non-refundable $2,000 deposit
- a $400 administrative fee
- Proof of the change in legal status must be submitted on or before September 30 of the school year for which the refund is requested.
- If the change in legal status occurs after September 30, no refund will be issued.
- The student will no longer be considered an international student in the following school year.
Partial Refunds
Partial or prorated refunds may be approved at the Program's discretion. Refund amounts will be reduced by:
- any fees paid to an agent
- a non-refundable $2,000 deposit
- a $400 administrative fee
Partial refunds may be considered in the following situations:
- Death or serious illness of an immediate family member requiring the student to return home. Supporting documentation is required
- Serious illness of the student requiring a return home. Supporting documentation is required
- The student’s study permit is not renewed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) during the school year
- Other exceptional or extenuating circumstances approved by the Director of the Winnipeg School Division International Education Program
- The student withdraws within 30 days of the first day of classes in a semester. A 50% refund of tuition fees paid may be granted
- The student submits a written cancellation notice for personal reasons
No Refunds
No refund will be issued if:
- The student withdraws more than 30 days after the start of the school year.
- The student or their parent/legal guardian becomes a Permanent Resident or refugee on or before September 30 and chooses to transfer to another school division before September 30.
- The student’s parent/legal guardian receives a valid Study Permit or Work Permit on or before September 30 and chooses to transfer the student to another school division before September 30.
- The student’s parent/legal guardian receives a valid Study Permit or Work Permit but does not notify the program by September 30.
- The student’s parent/legal guardian becomes a Permanent Resident or refugee but does not notify the program by September 30.
- The student is dismissed from the program for violating laws, policies, or regulations set by:
- the Government of Canada
- law enforcement authorities
- the Winnipeg School Division
- the WSD International Education Program
Homestay Fees
Before Arrival
A full homestay refund will be provided if:
- The student’s Study Permit is not approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
- The student is unable to enter Canada due to circumstances beyond their control (for example, travel bans or government restrictions)
- For cancellations due to personal reasons, written notice must be provided to the Program
After Arrival - Involuntary Cancellation
A partial refund, prorated by month, may be granted if the student is dismissed due to laws, policies, or regulations set by:
- the Government of Canada
- the Public Health Agency of Canada
- Manitoba Health
- the Winnipeg School Division
- the WSD International Education Program
After Arrival - Voluntary Cancellation
A partial refund, prorated by month, may be granted to students who provide written notice for personal reasons.
- Two full months of homestay fees will be deducted in place of notice.
No Refunds
No homestay refund will be issued if the student is dismissed due to:
- false or invalid documents
- violation of laws, policies, or regulations set by:
- the Government of Canada
- law enforcement authorities
- the Winnipeg School Division
- the WSD International Education Program
