Q: How do I apply?

A: Submit an application through the WSD International secure online application system with the support of a parent, representative, or approved agent. Students are not permitted to submit their own applications.

Q: Can I apply to WSD International without an agent?

A: Yes. WSD International accepts independent applications. Using an agent is not required to apply for admission to WSD International.

Applicants and families who are comfortable managing the education application process independently may submit their application directly to WSD International.

Families who would prefer assistance with the education application process may choose to work with one of WSD International's partner agencies.

Please note that education recruitment assistance and immigration advice are different services. If you require advice about your individual immigration circumstances, you should consult an authorized immigration representative.

Q: Does WSD International recommend that applicants use an agent?

A: Applicants are not required to use an agent. WSD International accepts both applications submitted independently and applications submitted with the assistance of our partner agencies.

Families who are unfamiliar with the Canadian education system or the WSD International application process may find it helpful to work with a recruitment agent for assistance with the education application process.

However, WSD International staff and education recruitment agents should not be relied upon for individual immigration advice unless the person providing that advice is authorized to do so under Canadian law.

Q: Who can apply to WSD International?

A: WSD International welcomes students from around the world who meet the program's admission requirements. Eligibility and admission may depend on the student's age, grade level, previous academic background, intended program, and available school placement. Applicants should review the program information and admission requirements before submitting an application.

Q: What documents are required?

A: To help us process applications smoothly, students are asked to prepare several documents before applying. These may include:

• School transcripts or report cards from the past two years
• Passport photo page
• Recent student photos
• Custodianship documents (if applicable)
• Additional supporting documents, depending on the student’s program goals

Documents not in English must be translated. 

Students planning to graduate with a Manitoba High School Diploma may also need notarized academic records. 

Additional documents may be requested depending on the student's individual application and program goals.

Q: When are application deadlines?

A: We have multiple intake periods throughout the year. Main intake periods are typically:

• September  - Fall Intake
• January/February - Winter Intake

Application deadlines may vary each year. Applicants are encouraged to apply early, as school placements and homestay availability can fill quickly.

Q: How long does the review and processing of the application take?

A: Processing times can vary depending on application completeness, required document review, school placement availability, and payment processing. 

Once all required documents are submitted, the applicant will receive updates through the application portal regarding invoices, school placement, and Letters of Acceptance. 

We strongly recommend applying early to allow enough time for visa and travel arrangements.

Q: What happens after I submit my application?

A: Once an application is submitted, WSD International reviews the application and supporting documents to determine whether it is complete and meets the program's admission requirements.

Additional information or documents may be requested if needed.

Once the application has been reviewed and approved, applicants will receive access through the application portal to their Conditional Letter of Acceptance (CLoA), school placement information, and applicable fee invoices.

Q: What happens if my application is incomplete?

A:If required information or documents are missing, WSD International may contact the applicant, parent/guardian, representative, or approved agent to request additional information.

An application cannot be fully reviewed until the required information has been received.

Missing or incomplete documents may delay application processing and school placement.

Q: Can I apply without English test scores?

A: Yes. Students may still apply without submitting English test scores. However, depending on the student’s program goals, WSD International may require proof of English proficiency through existing English assessment results or through an English language assessment after the application is submitted.

If students do not submit English assessment results during the application process, an English language assessment may be required to help determine appropriate academic and language support placement. This helps ensure students are placed in programs where they can succeed academically and feel supported in their learning journey.

Q: How is my grade level determined?

A: Grade placement is determined by WSD International based on factors such as the student's age, previous academic records, educational background, and Manitoba's grade-level requirements. Academic records may be reviewed to determine the most appropriate grade placement for the student. 

Q: Can I choose which school I will attend?

A: Applicants may indicate school preferences during the application process. However, school placement at a specific school is not guaranteed.

School placement is determined by WSD International based on factors such as the student's grade level, academic background, program requirements, available space, and other placement considerations.

Q: When will I receive my Letter of Acceptance?

A: After the application has been reviewed and approved, applicants will receive access to the Conditional Letter of Acceptance (CLoA), school placement information, and fee invoices through the application portal.

The official Letter of Acceptance (LOA) will be issued after the required $2,000 CAD non-refundable deposit has been received. This deposit will be applied toward the student’s total tuition fees.

Q: Can students apply mid-year?

A: Yes. WSD International accepts students during multiple intake periods, including mid-year entry options such as January and February. Availability may depend on the student’s grade level, program choice, and school placement.

For high school students in Grades 9–12, mid-year entry is typically available for the second semester intake beginning in February. 

Applicants are encouraged to contact the WSD International at international@wsd1.org to discuss the best intake option for their student.

Q: Can I defer my application to a later intake?

A: Deferral requests may be considered depending on the student's circumstances, intended intake, program availability, and WSD International's deferral policies.

Students who wish to defer should submit the appropriate Deferral Request Form and wait for confirmation from WSD International before making plans based on a new intake.

Deferrals are not automatically approved and are subject to WSD International's review.

Q: What happens if my application is not approved?

A: If an application does not meet WSD International's admission requirements or an appropriate school placement is not available, the applicant will be notified. Admission decisions are based on the information and documentation provided, program requirements, and available school placement.

Q: Can I withdraw my application after submitting it?

A: Yes. Applicants who wish to withdraw their application should contact WSD International and follow the applicable withdrawal procedures.

If fees or deposits have already been paid, refund eligibility will depend on the timing and circumstances of the withdrawal and will be subject to WSD International's Withdrawals, Cancellations and Refund Policy.

Please review the policy before submitting a withdrawal request.
