Looking for a Job?

December 13, 2021

Check out the JOB BOARD which is located outside the Guidance Office for current part time job postings.
Your Career Intern checks online a few times a week and posts opportunities that are near Churchill area including St. Vital Mall and Portage Place.

Most postings are taken from the Job Bank: www.jobbank.gc.ca

Students may notice that there are not as many retail jobs advertised after Christmas. This is because the retail season slows down considerably after Christmas, and picks up again in the Spring.  However, you can still drop off resumes to places. It's still a good thing for you to get your name out there with employers, they might keep you in mind for when a job does become open.

When applying for jobs:
  • Hand in a professional looking resume and cover letter.
  • Yes, employers expect a cover letter.  It serves to introduce yourself, and shows  your personality and skills. It also is your chance to highlight why they should hire you. Take the time to make a cover letter - it will pay off when you get that job.
  • There is a right and wrong way to make a resume/cover letter.

I can help you with these. A resume determines if they want to call you in for an interview. If you spent five minutes working on it the employer will pick up on that, and not call you back. Their thinking will be: if this person can't get their resume organized, how are they going to be on the job?

I encourage students to come see me so we can work on your resume together, so you can have the best chance of getting that job you want.

Some helpful tips:
  • Submit your resume by the deadline date that is advertised.
  • Drop off you resume in PERSON. This gives you that first chance to make an impression on the employer.
  • It is extremely important to dress to impress when dropping off a resume.
