Volunteer Opportunities

July 9, 2025

Travel Volunteer Opportunities for after high school:

Free and low cost programs. These are excellent ways to see and experience the world a little cost to you. This is a great way to expand your horizons, get new experiences and perspectives, if you decide it’s best for you to take a year to explore between high school and post-secondary school.

*NOTE: These programs are open to everyone.  You do not have to have plan on going to post secondary in order to participate.*

Katimavik – intensive 6-9 month volunteer program spent in 3 regions of Canada living with other youth volunteering in the community.  Free program: www.katimavik.org

Other Travel/Volunteer Options: (these options require a bit more funds upfront…)

Projects Abroad – volunteer projects and internships abroad.  www.projects-abroad.ca

Local Opportunities:

Volunteering looks great on a resume, gives you a reference, life experience, is lots of fun and very rewarding!

Siloam Mission is always looking for volunteers.  Email volunteer services at volunteer@siloam.ca or call 204-956-4344. Check out their website for a more detailed list of volunteer needs.

Manitoba Harvest is also in need of volunteers.  Contact them at 204-982-3582 or by email volunteer@harvestmanitoba.ca. Visit the Manitoba Harvest website.

Winnipeg School Division offers great after school programs for kids.  Contact Carmen Court at 204-474-1513 or see the Career Intern for a list of opportunities.

Keep your eyes open for volunteer positions within the school such as time keeping for sporting events.

Don’t forget to check with your nearest community centres, hospitals, personal care homes, soup kitchens or anywhere else you think might be a neat place to gain experience.
