Mr. Kyle McCartney

Nursery A.M./P.M. Class

Welcome!

Welcome to Nursery in Room 147! My name is Kyle McCartney – students know me as Mr. McCartney or “Mr. M”. I am looking forward to an exciting year in our AM (morning) and PM (afternoon) class for Nursery-aged students. This will be my eleventh-year teaching in an early elementary school setting. I have worked in many different roles, including as a Kindergarten teacher and, for the past six years, as a Learning Support/Resource Teacher. I am excited to see your child thrive this year through a truly unique, fun-filled first school experience.

Communication

We will be using SeeSaw to relay information including important school information, messages and reminders. This app is very user-friendly and it will be a great way to share your child’s learning in an interactive manner. Please connect to your child’s Seesaw journal in the first week of school, using the QR code provided.  If you have any questions or need some assistance, please let me know ASAP, I can also be reached at kmccartney@wsd1.org.

Entry/Exit:

To reduce traffic in our school and to avoid tricky farewells, our entry (drop-off) meeting spot will by the doors at the southeast corner (near the shed). Students will say goodbye to their families and walk into the school as a whole class. Student pickup will also be outside at the same meeting spot.

(147-AM) 8:50 - 11:25 AM

(147-PM) 12:50 - 3:25 PM

What to Expect

Our Nursery program uses play-based learning to build strong foundation of literacy, numeracy and critical thinking skills. Our classroom is carefully constructed with different learning centers that encourage creativity and imagination, strengthen oral language and literacy, develop motor skills, build problem-solving skills and engage students in collaboration and teamwork. When not participating in whole-group lessons, songs and movement, students will also explore their learning through various other avenues including, but not limited to: Dramatic play center with monthly themes, art center, writing station, classroom library, sensory bins, building center, math center, exploration station, outdoor play and small-group focused work with me at “Teacher Town”. We will be going outside daily so please ensure your child is dressed for ALL possible weather conditions.

School Supplies

· $20 school supply fee.

· Full-sized backpack.

· Indoor shoes that your child can put on independently.

· Extra clothing to keep in backpack (underwear, shorts/pants, shirt, socks).

· Daily snack (nut-free) and water bottle.

Birthdays:

We will celebrate every child’s birthday at school; however, we will avoid large parties. Families can send individual pre-packaged nut-free treats to share with the class during our snack time.
