2023 Valedictorian - Apply now!
May 29, 2023
2023 WAEC Valedictorian Interested in delivering the valedictorian speech?
You will be responsible for writing and delivering a four minute speech to the attendees of the 2023 WAEC Graduation Ceremony.
Criteria for the speech:
- You must be a February 2023 or June 2023 graduate of the Winnipeg Adult Education Centre (all sites).
Those interested in the position should consider the three distinct parts of a valedictory speech:
- acknowledgement of help, support or encouragement from families or friends;
- recognition of the teachers (the staff as a whole, not individuals) who have helped the graduates reach this point (a “thank you” from the graduating class);
- a message to your fellow graduates that promotes a positive view of the future.
Important points when delivering your speech:
- The valedictorian is speaking for the entire graduating class and is NOT speaking personally. Therefore, “I” should not appear and there should be no personal stories.
- Keep your points positive. Do not attack or criticize.
- The speech should be approximately four minutes long.
If you are interested in delivering the speech, submit your name to Jerome Greencorn (jgreencorn@wsd1.org) before the end of the school day on Friday, June 2, 2023.
Candidates must deliver their speeches to the Valedictorian Selection Committee. Wednesday, June 7, 2023 (location to be determined).
Note: the speech presented in June should be the actual speech delivered on graduation day, although some modifications may be made, if selected.
