Skateboarding Inquiry - Eagle Circle Off Campus
This project will support student at the offcampus classroom an inquiry learning experience through designing, crafting, and riding skateboards. Students will be mentored through workshops with indigenous community leaders and industry professionals and introduced to a multitude of lifelong skills aimed to promote fulfillment of the four needs in the Circle of Courage mode: belonging, mastery, independent and generosity. A visit to the indoor skate park and lessons from a certified instructor will engage and challenge students. Student learning will include Science and Physics, Graphic Arts, fashion, subcultures, healthy communities, and entrepreneurship. Funding is Student Admissions/Instruction, Fee for Service/Performance, supplies not available in school, film and developing.

Shaughnessy Park School

Shaughnessy Park Dance Team
This project supports opportunities for students to learn various dance which they might otherwise not experience in their home community and neighbourhood. Leadership from former Sisler students and Sisler’s Most Wanted dance team, will provide instruction to students twice per week at school. Physical Education, creativity, leadership skills and building positive relationships are all part of the success students will experience. Land-Based Learning and Canoe Trip Program 2023-2024
Funding for this project will provide students the opportunity to participate in a number of both inschool and land-based learning sessions with local, Indigenous guest presenters. The project will include topics such as the Indigenous history of our region, natural resources development, water and fire teachings, as well as traditional plant/medicine teachings. The project will allow students to also participate in preparatory sessions to build canoeing skills and test swimming abilities, as well as travel to Shoal Lake to embark on a 5-day, 4-night canoe trip in which they will engage with the teachings with Indigenous teachers and local Indigenous communities. Funding for this project is artist’s fee/guest speaker, fee for service/performances, supplies (not available in school), equipment rental/instruction and others.

Funding for this project will allow students the opportunity to gain a camp experience that aligns with outdoor education school goals, including bilingual programs (Hebrew and English), as well as develop and encourage leadership skills. The project will support students in Grades 5 and 6 through workshops at Camp Arnes, including in ropes course, orienteering, environmental games, archery and hiking. This camp experience will enhance students in Science, ESD, physical fitness and healthy lifestyle choices. Camp Day 2024
Funding for this project will provide students the opportunity to stay for a day at Camp Manitou with parents and staff in which they will discuss and incorporate each of their perspectives and goals. In previous years students discussed learning about the world around them and how they see themselves in this world, parents discussed the importance of taking risks, building confidence and collaborating with others, and the staff discussed the importance of incorporating nature based STEAM activities in an environment that supports mental health while building resilience and critical thinking skills. The project will address the school goal of increasing engagement amongst Weston community, while incorporating land based educational experiences in relationship with Mamahtawisiwin objective providing students with experiential and nature based learning opportunities. The funding will support the development of a sitting area in the school courtyard and around school property. The development will include 3 picnic tables in various areas around on school property and 2 in the courtyard are for all students to access and use throughout the year. The three on the school property will be cemented on the spot. A professional company will be used to do the work and the Division’s Building Department have reviewed and support the request. Funding is Fee For Service.

Glenelm School

Glenelm School Installation of Swing Sets 
This project supports the collective gathering of information from students and PAC, to install an outdoor 6 seat swing set. This will also include an inclusive seat for students who have additional needs. Swings make students happy, and engage students in outdoor activities, physical education and relationship building. This project has been reviewed and is supported by the WSD Buildings Department. Funding will be play structure/ground improvement.

Winnipeg Adult Education Centre

Bike Cage Improvements-Installation of bike repair stand and pump
Funding will support additional improvements to the existing bike cage at Winnipeg Adult Education. The additions to the bike cage fit with WSD’s 3 Pillars of ESD; human health/wellbeing, economy/ and environment. More and more students obtain bikes from WRENCH, and with these new installations, more and more students will ride bikes and bikes will remain in good working order. Funding is for Fee for Service and supplies not available at school.

The Mother’s Project A Career Trek Project for Adolescent Parents
Funding for this project will support and introduce students to postsecondary education institutions and the possibilities they can explore as future career paths. Students will participate in various workshops in a variety of faculties and training programs. The program helps to empower participating students discover their talents, skills, and expertise in different areas. Funding is Fee for Service/Performance.

David Livingstone School

Yoga for Kids
Funding for this project will help improve the fitness levels of students as they strengthen their bodies and improve their coordination. The “Yoga for Kids” program uses a multi-sensory approach to teaching children and yoga also helps with body awareness, self-regulation, attention, stress management, motor planning and cooperative learning skills. The program is highly recommended by Occupational therapists who work with students to increase physical fitness, enhance the physical and wellbeing of participants, and create an interest in yoga. Funding for this project is Fee for Service/Performances.

Replacing Sport Jerseys with new school name
Funding for this project supports the purchase of new team jerseys. Due to the name change (formally Cecil Rhodes School), both the basketball and volleyball teams require new jerseys. In 2023 the volleyball jerseys were purchased. The total cost of the purchase is $10,911.00. The school currently has remaining funds and is therefore asking the committee for special circumstances with funding in the amount of $7,792.06. Funding is for supplies not available in school.

The project supports students with social emotional learning. Sensory rooms promote regulation and create a safe space. Pinkham School hopes to create a controlled, sensory-focus space that meets the needs of students. Funding for this project supports students with an opportunity to explore an authentic outdoor setting while learning the French language. A day of outdoor learning will take place at Fort Whyte where learning will include Predator/Prey, Water Quality and Wildlife Diversity using their French language skills. Tec Voc High School

Skiing/Snowboarding Trip to Springhill Sports
Funding for this project will support students and their participation in an outdoor activity. Approximately 40 students in grades 9 to 12 will travel to Spring Hill where they will receive professional instruction. Student learning will include physical education, to enjoy the outdoors and to build positive relationships. Funding is student admissions/registration.

École Victoria-Albert School

Hinterland
The project supports the transformation and development of the snow-covered school field to include areas for winter outdoor activities. Professional staff will be hired to assist with the transformation that will include a snow hill for sliding, broomball, snowshoeing, and structure building. WSD buildings department has been included in discussion around the development and are in full support. Many students do not travel from the neighbourhood to participate in other activities. Having our playground and field transformed, will encourage all students to learn and participate. Funding is Fee for Service/Performance and supplies not available in school.
