Winnipeg is at the heart of North America – centrally located in Canada in the province of Manitoba. Because we are located near the 50th latitude, Winnipeg experiences longer days in the summer and shorter days in the winter. Winnipeg has big city business with a small-town heart – and one of the things that makes it such a great place to live and visit is the friendliness of the nearly 700,000 people living here.

Winnipeg is culturally diverse, and the arts, entertainment and food reflect that diversity. There are festivals throughout the year, including Folkorama, Fringe Fest, National Indigenous Peoples Day, Culture Day, Folk Fest, and Manyfest. But of course, we embrace winter – our province has long, cold winters, but we don’t hide indoors – we celebrate with sports and cultural events. Winnipeg holds an annual 10-day winter fest celebrating the historical French Canadian culture. Festival du Voyageur is the biggest winter festival in all of Western Canada. Winter is also a time to cheer on the home teams: Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose. It’s also a great time to skate, walk, run, or sled your way along The Red River Mutual Trail. Starting in the heart of the city, the Guinness World Record-holding longest naturally frozen skating trail in the world offers the unique experience of seeing the sights of Winnipeg from the frozen Red and Assiniboine Rivers.

There are many attractions open to the public in Winnipeg. You can stroll through the Assiniboine Zoo; visit the Forks to sample food and do some shopping before visiting the Canadian Museum for Human Rights; spend time on the Assiniboine and Red Rivers in a canoe, kayak or rowing scull; bike or walk through the many green spaces and parks found throughout the city.
