Facilities Management

The Facilities Management Department mission is to provide safe, secure and comfortable facilities for students and staff in a cost effective manner that respects the principles of sustainability.

Under the general direction of the Superintendent, the Facilities Management Department delivers infrastructure needs of Winnipeg School Division in consultation with senior administration, school administrators and community advisory groups.

The physical plant of WSD consists of 90 buildings with approximately 5,342,317 square feet of building space of varying vintages and maintains approximately 276 acres of grounds.

The Facilities Management Department includes the following groups:

Engineering Group

The Engineering Group provides the following professional services:       

• Planning
• Architectural Design
• Mechanical Engineering Design
• Electrical Engineering Design
• Engineering Design Technologist             
• Project Administration

Operations Group

The Operations Group includes over 100 trades persons and support staff responsible for providing daily building maintenance, grounds maintenance and minor construction projects to division buildings and grounds.

Custodial services are school based and are not managed by the Facilities Management Department.

Technical Support Group

The Technical Support Group provides professional consulting services to both the Engineering and Operations Groups. This group includes:

• Project and Maintenance Estimation
• Planned and Preventive Maintenance Programs
• Energy Management Services

Administrative Support Group

The Administrative Support Group is a team that provides the senior administration in the Facilities Management Department financial and administrative support. This group includes:

• Secretary to Director
• Reception & Filing Clerk
• Administrative Assistant

Five-Year Plan

Building projects within the division may be funded by internal and capital funds or by the Province of Manitoba Education Funding Branch. All projects are administrated under the general direction of the Board of Trustees.
