Facilities Management provides safe, functional, and welcoming spaces for students to thrive and learn. WSD buildings and properties are managed with a focus on inclusion, accessibility, and sustainability.

The department oversees 78 schools and 13 administrative and operational sites. This includes 5.4 million square feet of building space and approximately 410 acres of land. The average age of WSD buildings is 69 years.

Facilities Management comprises three teams:

• Grounds provides seasonal outdoor maintenance at WSD properties.
• Operations includes skilled tradespeople who perform daily maintenance and minor construction projects to keep schools and other buildings operating safely.
• Capital Projects has designers and project managers who oversee major upgrades, renovations, and new construction.

All construction projects are funded through the division’s operating and/or capital budgets. WSD also works closely with the provincial government to secure additional capital project funding. Each year, Facilities Management submits priorities for provincial funding through the Five-Year Capital Plan. Review the latest Five-Year Capital Plan.

All capital projects are administered under the direction of the Superintendent/CEO, Secretary-Treasurer/CFO, and Board of Trustees.
