Welcome to a new and exciting year in the Nursery/Kindergarten program here at Machray School! My name is Mrs. Heather Mackenzie and I am so excited to begin our learning journey together. Growing up in the Inner city of Winnipeg, I always knew that I wanted to work with children/youth and stay within my community. After becoming a young mother, I decided to go back to school to pursue a career in education and it has been the best decision I’ve made thus far. I now work close to home, remain in my community and enjoy seeing many familiar faces in the neighbourhood. I really enjoy helping and supporting those around me. 

In room 142, my goal is to provide my students with an intentional play based environment where children can really explore and discover for themselves. Through play, students learn by investigating, touching, wondering and experiencing. When given the opportunity to interact with their peers, students begin to gain confidence in themselves and their identity as a person and as a learner.  I enjoy helping students to find their own creativity through arts and multiple hands on activities that stretch across all of the early years curriculum targets. 

It is important for us as educators and parents, to ask our children about their learning at school in order for us to celebrate their success and growth throughout the year together!
