Day of Pink

What is Day of Pink?

Day of Pink began when a boy wore a pink shirt to school. A few other kids bullied him because of the pink shirt he wore. His friends saw what they were doing and decided make a statement against bullying. The next day they bought pink t-shirts and gave them to other boys and girls in their school.

Our school has participated in the Day of Pink to support anti-bullying. We ordered pink shirts from the Red Cross and we wore them on April 10th. We had a kick off assembly on April 4th so that the Action Group could tell the other students about Day of Pink.

Everyone at École Garden Grove School is aware of this day and supports anti-bullying. It is our hope that the students will continue to wear their pink shirts to support anti-bullying.

Action Group organized the kick off assembly, ordered the shirts, put up posters and did presentations just for the Day of Pink. They got together at lunch, after school and at recess time. They also worked on the Day of Pink posters over Spring Break.

On April 10th, we had a second assembly. We watched videos and talked about bullying. One of the videos was about a girl named Molly Burke, and her experience being bullied. We talked about a boy named Iqbal Masih. After we talked about him we played the song ‘Everybody Dance Now’. Then we shouted, "Flash Mob", and some kids from grade 6 danced to the song. We did that as a Random Act of Kindness for our school.

We understand that bullying is a very important matter and the students at École Garden Grove School would like to help others who are being bullied. Next April 10th, please wear pink to support anti-bullying.
