Take Home Testing Kits
January 20, 2022 Announcement, News Story
Home testing kits have gone home!
WSD distributed rapid Covid-19 testing kits to Kindergarten to Grade 6 students immediately following the 2021 Winter break.
Rapid test kits were provided by Manitoba Public Health to help manage growing demand at Covid-19 test sites and an overall goal to ensure student safety in schools.
Take-home testing kits help families and caregivers have comfort as students return to the classroom. Each testing kit includes instructions for administration, a letter to parents, and all supplies needed.
If a student has tested positive for COVID-19 either at a provincial lab or using a rapid antigen test, they must self-isolate. The length of isolation depends on vaccination status:
- Fully vaccinated and NO symptoms – isolate for five days from date of positive test.
- Fully vaccinated and HAS symptoms – isolate for five days from the day symptoms started or the date of their positive test (whichever is later). Continue to isolate until there is no longer a fever and other symptoms have been improving over the previous 24 hours.
- Not fully vaccinated – isolate for 10 days from the day symptoms started or the date of their positive test (whichever is later). Continue to isolate until there is no longer a fever and other symptoms have been improving over the previous 24 hours.
Supplies are limited, however, parents and guardians who have not received a test kit for their Kindergarten to Grade 6 children can contact their school directly to request one, subject to availability.
