Kelvin goes to National Finals of Ethics Bowl

March 7, 2023
Row 1, L to R (Kelvin Team Plato) Annette Colbert, Harijai Sran, Feliciaa Baldner, Uday Bhardwaj, Gabriel McArthur ; Row 2, L to R (Kelvin Team Socrates) - Inti Nemoga Stout, Julian McArthur, Jeslyn Peng, Sarah Fontaine-Sinclair, Raymond Sokalski; row 3- Bella Muller

Kelvin's Ethics Bowl scholars represented their school with distinction at the Manitoba High School Ethics Bowl provincial finals held at the University of Manitoba recently.
Kelvin was represented by two teams at the English Bowl and a third team at la Coupe éthique held at the Université de Saint-Boniface.
Twenty-four teams qualified for these events, which involved researching and discussing topics ranging from Robots caring for the elderly to reducing plastic waste, from teacher-imposed deadlines for assignments to criminal intent while intoxicated.  Only four teams made it to the final rounds of discussion -- and two of the four were both Kelvin teams!
Never before, in the last ten years that Ethics Bowl has been running in Canada, have three teams taken part in provincial finals, all from one school. In a last-minute twist of fate, a pick-up team had to be formed to replace a last-minute school withdrawal, and three of those five team members were current Kelvin students or Kelvin alumni.
In the end, Kelvin Team Socrates edged out Kelvin Team Plato to advance to the final round, and at the end of the 2023 Ethics Bowl, Kelvin advances to the National finals for the fifth year in a row, to be held this April at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
Congratulations go out to:
Sarah Fontaine-Sinclair, Jeslyn Peng, Annette Colbert, Inti Nemoga Stout, Feliciaa Baldner, Julian McArthur, Uday Bhardwaj, Harijai Sran, Avery Ewankiw, Max Huang, Gabriel McArthur, Bella Muller, Ruby Murphy.
