Ojibwe and Cree Bilingual Program

April 19, 2024

Isaac Brock School is delighted to extend the opportunity for your child to participate in our ininimowin or Anishinaabemowin Language Revitalization program for the 2024-2025 school year.

Our Language Revitalization programs, spanning from Kindergarten to Grade 8, focus on oral language instruction, allowing students to listen, understand, and communicate with others in the language.

Students will delve into the profound connection between the People, the Language, and the Land. Our dedicated classroom teachers collaborate with Language speakers, a Nature-based learning teacher, Knowledge Keepers, and Elders to provide enriching learning experiences. Similar to bilingual programming, our Language Revitalization program incorporates the Language up to 50% of the school day.

The Anishinaabemowin and ininimowin languages are intrinsic to the people and deeply intertwined with culture and the land. Students will explore traditional teachings and ceremonies integrated with the language, including medicines, drums, gift-giving, tipi teachings, and more.

For the 2024/2025 school year:

  • Due to current enrollment, our language programs are accepting applications for students at the Kindergarten level only.
  • Transportation is provided for all students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 residing within the Winnipeg School Division and living more than 1.6 kilometers from Isaac Brock School.
  • Lunch supervision is also provided at no cost, but students need to bring their own lunch and snacks.

Applications are accessible online and at Isaac Brock School. Once your application is submitted, we will reach out to schedule a meeting to meet with your child/family and discuss the Language Programs.

Every child matters and together our combined efforts can answer the Calls to Action and advance reconciliation.
