The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a prestigious, world renowned, scheme that is truly earned by its participants. Over a period of six months, students challenging the award volunteered, at places such as food banks, developed a skill, such as learning guitar or improving their art skills, and participated in physical exercise. They did each of these activities for an hour a week, for thirteen weeks and then continued with one pursuit for a further thirteen weeks.

As a culminating activity, students undertook a challenging three-day hike and camp, carrying everything they needed for survival. The expedition pushed them to the limits of their physical and mental endurance, learning more about themselves through the experience and developing teamwork and leadership skills that will serve them well in the future.

Over the years, Sisler High School has had approximately eighty students complete their Bronze Awards and a dozen former students who have earned their Silver Awards, which were presented by the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, at Government House. One student, Guneet Uppal, received their Gold Award, which was a major undertaking and an amazing achievement.

Congratulations to all the students involved in this rewarding experience.
