Elmwood High School Week of Red Awareness campaign for MMIWG2S
May 10, 2024 News Story
Elmwood officially launched its "Week of Red" Awareness campaign on May 3, 2024, and it ran until May 10, 2024. The schools Indigenous Learning Committee, and the Elmwood Supply Company supported students with this initiative, and worked hard at creating daily awareness statements, handing out of MMIWG2S awareness ribbons, MMIWG2S awareness video, held a sacred fire, and planned our Week of Red assembly.
Elmwood students worked hard this past month creating awareness via social media posts, creation of an awareness video, and apparel about MMIWG2S and through their hard work and from the sales of MMIWG2S awareness apparel raised $3600.00 dollars to support the North Point Douglas Women’s Centre. Again, all of the funds raised were given directly to NPDWC.
Students presented Bernadette Folster, Program Team Lead for the North Point Douglas Women's Centre during the Week of Red assembly on Wednesday, May 9, 2024, with our donation cheque. We would like to thank all of the individuals who purchased MMIWG2S awareness apparel and who dedicated their time to support our students, community, staff, and our Indigenous women.
