Winnipeg School Division supports student learning through offering a rich diversity of materials for students and teachers.
School libraries have always been and continue to be centres of student learning, literacy and inquiry. The school library program is integral to the school’s instructional programs, providing the seamless integration of technologies and inquiry skills and strategies that foster and enhance student understanding and more importantly, meaning in an ever-changing and increasingly complex society.
In an age where information technologies provide students with staggering volumes of instantaneous data, school library personnel in partnership with the classroom teacher are charged with instructing information literacy skills and strategies that will develop and promote a passion for reading, a life-long learning pursuit of understanding and the unending acquisition of knowledge. The information-rich environment of a school library provides an extraordinary setting where school library personnel enter a learning partnership and travel together on a journey of discovery and ultimate student success.
