Arts Education in Winnipeg School Division is based on the curricula developed by Manitoba Education.
The goal of Arts Education is to provide students with experiences and exposure to all areas of the arts. Dance, drama, visual arts, choir, band, guitar, and video production are examples of some discipline specific courses that are taught in elementary and secondary schools. As well, they are infused into content area courses throughout the grade levels. Through these learning experiences, students are developing their abilities to communicate their ideas, interpret different kinds of text, and expand their appreciation of different art forms.
Arts education encompasses skills and knowledge from across the content areas while providing an outlet for creativity and self-expression.
