The Manitoba Aboriginal Sports & Recreational Council NAIG Legacy Scholarships

Deadline: June 1, 2024

Award Amount: Sixteen awards, each worth $600

Who can apply?

  • Indigenous students graduating from Grade 12 and who are enrolled into a full time University or other recognized post-secondary institution
  • Candidates must have proficiency in sport and have a minimum 65% average in his/her grades
  • Scholarships will be awarded to Indigenous youth who have shown athletic leadership in Manitoba's amateur sport community through well rounded participation as an athlete, as well as on the basis of academic standing, and other school/community related activities

What will I have to do?

  • Submit a completed application

  • Proof of Indigenous ancestry: photocopy of Indian status, Metis, or Inuit card

  • A letter from the principal verifying the candidate's character, involvement in other school programs/services and school citizenship

  • A letter from the coach indicating the candidate's character and athletic ability

  • Latest transcript of marks

  • A letter from the applicant describing their sport involvement and future plans in sport. Please include:

    • Sport Awards Received (i.e. All-Star, MVP, Player of the Game, etc.) Please be specific; include name of tournament, event championship, etc. and date

    • Highlights (Outstanding accomplishments in sports)

    • School/Community Participation (Please include activity, your role, how long you have been involved (i.e. athletic council, treasurer, etc.)

    • What are your future athletic plans and goals?

2024 Mayor's Scholarship for Community Leadership

Who can apply?

  • High school graduates with a minimum overall grade average of 70%
  • Those entering their first-year of post-secondary education on a full-time basis at a recognized college or university in the City of Winnipeg
  • Those who have made a significant contribution to Winnipeg and demonstrated outstanding community leadership

Abbott and Fenner Scholarship

  • High school students in grades 11 and 12 as well as students currently registered in an accredited post-secondary institution

What will I have to do?

  • Write an essay (500-1,000 words) on the following topic: Describe your educational career and life goals. Explain your plan for achieving these goals, and include your degree/major, why you selected it and how it will help you to achieve your goals

Peak of the Market Bursary

Award Amount: $4,000
Who can apply?

  • Individuals must be accepted to enter or already enrolled in full-time studies in an agriculture and/or food science bachelor or diploma program at an accredited Western Canadian university or college (within Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta or British Columbia)
    • Preference will be given to applicants that are pursuing studies that are applicable to the commercial potato and vegetable industries in Western Canada
  • Use the bursary within the academic year it is awarded
  • Provide all the information and documentation outlined in the application process
  • Self-identify financial need

Premier’s Healthy Living Scholarship for Youth

Award Amount: $1,000
 
Who can apply?

  • Award applicants must be graduating students set to enter post-secondary who have made an outstanding contribution to their school and/or community in one of the following areas: Active Living, Healthy Eating, Healthy Sexuality, Mental Health Promotion, Safety & Injury Prevention, Substance Abuse & Addictions or Tobacco Reduction

What will I have to do?

  • The application and statement will be assessed based on the following criteria:
    • The extent of the applicant’s healthy living contributions in their school and/or community
    • The degree to which the applicant’s contributions fall into one or more of the specified healthy living areas of achievement
    • The impact of the applicant’s contributions in their school and/or community
    • The quality of response to the statement question

The University of the Aftermarket Foundation Scholarship

Deadline: June 15, 2024

Award Amount: $1,000
Who can apply?

  • Qualified applicants must either be a graduating high school senior or have graduated from high school within the past two years
  • To receive a scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in a college-level program, university or an accredited automotive technical program through either a CAMPE (Canadian Association of Motive Power Educators) college or a CARS approved institute
  • Students must be enrolled full-time in Canada for the year of the scholarship

What do I have to do?

  • Scholarship application must be accompanied by an official high school transcript
  • A letter of recommendation
  • An essay of at least 250 words in length, no longer than one page, double-spaced, indicating why you believe you deserve to be chosen to receive a scholarship

BigSun Scholarship

Deadline: June 19, 2024

Award Amount: $500

Who can apply?

  • All student athletes are eligible regardless of the sport they are engaged in
  • The student must be a high school senior or be attending a post-secondary institute

What will I have to do?

  • Write a short essay answering the following 3-part question: How did your participation in sports during your high school years influence you? Has your participation influenced your career goals? Has your participation influenced how you relate to your family?

Manitoba Beef Producers Scholarships

Deadline: June 21, 2024

Award Amount: Six awards each worth $1,000

Who can apply?

  • Must be an active Manitoba beef producer or the child of an active Manitoba beef producer
    • Note: This can also include active beef producers returning to school after a period of time in the workforce
  • Must be pursuing post-secondary studies or trades training in the 2023-2024 academic year
  • Post-secondary programs or trades training must be a minimum of one academic year in duration

What will I have to do?

  • Complete the application form
  • Submit either a typed 600-word essay OR a 5-7 minute video discussing the topic “What the beef industry means to my family, my community and Manitoba.”
    • You will need to identify in the essay or video the reasons you enjoy being involved in agriculture
  • A copy of your transcript (either high school, or a recognized college, university or trade school)
  • Proof of enrolment in a recognized institution (current transcript, or your acceptance letter, or a letter of intent indicating your intended institution and field of study for 2023-2024)
  • A list of your community involvement (e.g. 4-H, community clubs, volunteer work, etc.)
  • The names of two references, including their addresses and telephone numbers

Louis Riel Institute’s Senator Gerry & Margaret St. Germain Award

The Louis Riel Institute’s Senator Gerry & Margaret St. Germain Award aims to support exceptional Grade 12 students in Manitoba who excel in math and/or science and actively contribute to their community. As a high school educator, we kindly request your assistance in spreading the word to your students who meet the eligibility criteria.

Deadline: June 26, 2024

Award Amount: Two outstanding recipients will be selected, and each will receive a generous $1,000 to aid their educational journey.

Who can apply?

Grade 12 students who excel in math and/or science and are actively involved in the Red River Métis community. Open to students attending school in Manitoba. 

What will I have to do?

To apply, students must submit the following documents through the LRI Bursaries and Awards online application portal:

  • Completed application form
  • Transcript or statement of marks for the most recent year
  • Letter of recommendation from a Métis community member
  • Letter of recommendation from an Academic community member
  • 500-word essay
  • Proof of MMF citizenship

CNIB Post-Secondary Scholarships

Deadline: June 30, 2024

Award Amount: $1,000 to $5,000 
Who can apply?

  • CNIB post-secondary scholarships are awarded to Canadian students who are blind or partially sighted to pursue post-secondary studies
  • To be considered eligible for a CNIB post-secondary scholarship, you must be:
    • Blind or partially sighted (less than 20/70 corrected vision)
    • A secondary school graduate entering post-secondary education
    • A Canadian citizen, or have held landed immigrant status for one year prior to the date of application
    • Highly motivated, independent and able to demonstrate a reasonable level of personal achievement

What will I have to do?

  • Proof of secondary education completion (interim)
  • Academic transcript (interim)
  • Letter of acceptance from an accredited postsecondary institution, college or university
  • At least two letters of reference from a teacher, school official or volunteer supervisor
  • An essay (maximum two pages or 1,000 words) on the topic: “How this scholarship will change what it means to be blind for me in my education”
  • An eye report (not older than one year)
  • List of other sources of funding

CAPSLE Bursary

Who can apply?

  • The applicant must have been accepted to a Canadian university program in a recognized Faculty of Education and/or Faculty of Law in the 2023/24 academic year
  • Priority will be given to applicants who identify as a member of a group that is under-represented in Education and/or Law

What will I have to do?

The applicant must provide the following documents in support of a Bursary application:

  • Documentary proof that the applicant is accepted to a program at a recognized Faculty of Education and/or Law at a Canadian university, or will be continuing in such program, in the 2023/2024 academic year
  • A short essay, up to 500 words, describing how the applicant meets the eligibility criteria and why the applicant is studying Education and/or Law, including thoughtful commentary on the nexus between Education and Law
  • Professionally formatted resume, including leadership experience applicable to intended area(s) of study

Furnace Prices Voice of the Future Scholarship

Deadline: June 30, 2024

Award Amount: $1,000

Who can apply?

  • High school students in grades 11 and 12 as well as students currently registered in an accredited post-secondary institution

What will I have to do?

  1. Record Your Video: Create a short video (1-3 minutes) where you discuss one of the major issues facing young people today. Tell us what you think needs to be done to address it. Be creative, be honest, and be yourself. You must mention in the video that it is for the FurnacePrices.ca scholarship.
  2. Submit Your Application: Upload your video to a video-sharing platform (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and fill out the application form on our website. You’ll need to include your contact information, a link to your video, and a brief description of the issue you’re discussing.
  3. Share Your Vision: Post your video on social media with the hashtag #FPVoiceoftheFuture and tag us @furnaceprices.ca. Let’s get the conversation started and show the world the power of your ideas.
  4. Fill out the form: After you’ve posted and shared your video, fill out the form on our website with your contact details and a link to your video & posts.
