Practical Arts

This Sargent Park School program is attended by neighboring schools as well as our own grade 7, 8, and 9 students. It offers electronics, graphic arts, foods/nutrition, and clothing/textiles. The Practical Arts dress codes apply to all shops areas, as specified by the Superintendent in 2011 due to safety concerns. All clothes should NOT be loose fitting, NO shorts or sandals, remove all jewelry, and long hair must be tied back.  I pods, cell phones or other electronic devices are not permitted.

 

Electronics 

Let’s spark some interest! The Electronics Program covers topic related to Electricity in our world today! Students will practice lab safety, electronic part and tool identification, circuit calculation, soldering and be able to produce finished and functioning projects!

 

Food and Nutrition

Students in Grade 7, 8 and 9 demonstrate the application of the New Canada Food Guide for Healthy Eating in their: food choices; meal planning; consumerism; principles of kitchen and food safety; proper table and service etiquette; and produce a food product from a recipe using technology and time management.

 

Graphic Arts Technology  
 
Creating a higher learning! Students in Grade 7, 8 and 9 will explore graphic arts as a creative communication tool while demonstrating a variety of production methods and techniques. Topics covered will range from; lab safety, design principles, design elements, units of measurement, colour theory, typography, technical illustration, digital imaging, various industry software applications, screen printing, air-brushing, mural design and career options in graphic design.

 

Textile Arts and Design

Students in grade 7, 8 and 9 learn basic hand sewing and sewing machine skills by designing and creating take-home projects such as pillows, clothing and bead-work. Students will work on their teamwork, problem solving and time management skills while in the sewing lab.
