Welcome!

September has absolutely flown by, and what a wonderful start to the school year it has been! I am so excited to begin a new year of learning with all of the wonderful students in our room. This month, we have been busy building our classroom community, establishing positive learning habits, and getting to know one another. It has been wonderful to see students settling into their routines and becoming comfortable in our learning environment.

In Math, we have been reviewing place value and strengthening our understanding of numbers. As we move into October, we will continue working on fact fluency and problem-solving skills, while building confidence and accuracy in our mathematical thinking.

In ELA, we have been focusing on spelling and have begun our novel study of Holes. Students will continue developing their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and written responses as we explore the novel together. Students are also expected to read independently at home and keep their reading logs up to date. Thank you for your support in encouraging regular reading at home!

Our Science unit on habitats is underway! Students have been exploring different types of habitats and learning about how animals survive within their environments. Later in the unit, students will have the opportunity to put their learning into action by designing and building their own animal habitats.

In Social Studies, we have started the year by exploring maps of Canada and Manitoba, developing our understanding of where we live and how our province and country are connected. Moving forward, we will begin exploring what it means to be a Canadian citizen and the responsibilities and roles that come with citizenship.

We have had such a strong start to the school year, and I am incredibly proud of the way students have embraced our classroom community. I am looking forward to seeing their continued growth, learning, and confidence throughout October and the rest of the year!
