Mr. Macdonell

November 4, 2025

October has been an exciting and productive month in our classroom! Students have shown wonderful curiosity, teamwork, and growth across all subjects.

In Math, we have successfully moved beyond place value and explored multi-digit addition and subtraction, working with numbers up to six and seven digits! Students are also using their rounding skills to estimate sums and differences, a great way to strengthen mental math and number sense.

In Social Studies, we’ve continued our journey through Canadian history and have begun a research project to learn more about the diverse groups of people who call Canada home. The class has enjoyed discovering unique stories and traditions that shape our country. In Science, our exploration of forces and simple machines is drawing to a close, and students are now applying their knowledge to design and build their very own compound machines.

In English Language Arts, we continue to build strong reading and writing skills while improving spelling and grammar. We’re also thrilled to have started our Reading Buddies program with another classroom. It’s been wonderful to see students share books and enjoy reading together.

Please ensure your child is reading at home and keeping their reading log up to date. Regular reading is one of the most important ways to build academic and intellectual skills, and it sets the foundation for lifelong success.
