Physical Education Newsletter – April 2026

In April, students will continue participating in a variety of games and activities to enhance their movement skills, personal fitness, and enjoyment. The skill component will focus on developing manipulation skills, particularly striking, across all grade levels. Students will also apply these skills in badminton and other simple racket games and activities for functional use.

Throughout the school year, we provide our students with opportunities to engage in various intramural and club activities to reinforce the skills and concepts learned in the Physical Education program.

Intramural and Club Activities: The Mulvey School soccer teams have demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship in the Inner-City Soccer League, competing in 18 games from October 31, 2025, to March 24, 2026, and representing our school with excellence. They deserve our sincere appreciation for their achievements.

The Mulvey School Basketball Team participated in the Inner-City Basketball League at the Sport for Life Center, competing in 12 games from January 21 to March 11, 2026. Our students have also participated in the Basketball Tournament hosted by Sargent Park School on March 18, 2026. Students had a great time and truly enjoyed this wonderful experience. Thank you for representing Mulvey at the tournament and for being great ambassadors of our school.

Dodgeball Intramural: Our Annual Dodgeball Intramural for grades 4-6 have just wrapped up! A total of 52 students participated, showing great enthusiasm, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the games. It was a fun and memorable experience for everyone involved.

ZUMBA and YOGA Clubs: Students in grades 1 to 3 had the wonderful opportunity to participate in Zumba during lunch recess in March, organised and led by Ms. Blatt. The club was a great success, with students eagerly joining in and enjoying each session. Yoga Club coming up in April, and available for grades 1 to 3. Ms. North will be leading this club activity, and this will provide another enjoyable way for students to stay active while also learning relaxation, balance, and mindfulness skills.

We will continue to offer our students Before School Open Gym sessions throughout April.

Please refer to our monthly Intramural calander.

Mulvey School Physical Education Program Overview

2025  2026 School Year

Introduction

Acquisition of movement skills is a key factor for students choosing to lead physically active and healthy lifestyles. Students are less likely to participate in physical activities and recreational sport if they have not learned the skills or experienced success in applying them. The fundamental movement skills that we teach our students in our program are the foundation or building blocks of an active lifestyle during adolescence.

Physical Education Learning Outcomes Explanation

Mulvey School Physical Education Program is based on the Manitoba Curriculum Framework of outcomes for Active Healthy Lifestyles.

The aim of the program is to provide students with planned and balanced programming to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for physically active and healthy lifestyles. The vision is physically active and healthy lifestyles for all students.

Curriculum Content and Learning Outcomes

Curriculum content is organised within the following five learning outcomes:

  • Movement: The student will demonstrate competency in selected movement skills and learning experiences.

  • Fitness Management: The student will develop physical activity habits, personal fitness and preparing them for lifelong physical activity and well-being.

  • Safety: The student will demonstrate safe and responsible behaviours to manage risks and prevent injuries in physical activity participation.

  • Personal and Social Management: the student will demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with others, and to build positive relationships with others.

  • Healthy lifestyle Practices: The student will demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions for healthy living related to personal health practices, active living, and healthy nutritional practices.
