Mr. Macdonell

June 4, 2026

It is hard to believe how quickly the weeks are flying by as we continue through another busy and exciting month! Students have been working hard and continue to show lots of growth in their learning.

In Math, we recently wrapped up our work on algebra, including patterns, expressions, and equations. Students practiced identifying relationships, solving problems, and explaining their mathematical thinking. We are now beginning our next unit focused on measurement, shapes and space, as well as looking into probability.

In ELA, students completed a persuasive writing challenge where they had to persuade me whether or not to open a mysterious box that appeared in our classroom. Thankfully, the majority voted to open it, which turned out to be a good decision, as it was filled with treats! Alongside persuasive writing, we have continued working on our reading, writing, and spelling skills through daily practice and classroom activities.

In Social Studies, we have been learning about the people who were here before Canada became a country, and exploring the many groups and cultures that contributed to the “Canadian Puzzle.” Students have been building a greater understanding of Canada’s diverse history and who shaped our identity.

In Science, we have begun our unit on the human body. So far, students have explored the digestive, skeletal, and muscular systems, with many more fascinating systems still to come. Students have enjoyed learning how the different parts of the body work together to keep us healthy and functioning every day.

This month, students also had the opportunity to attend several career fair presentations. We heard from a variety of professionals, including a realtor and two doctors, among others. It was a great opportunity for students to begin thinking about different career paths and hear about real-world experiences and skills.

As always, thank you for your continued support at home. It is greatly appreciated and plays an important role in your child’s success at school. Please continue to remind your children to complete their math homework, and read daily. We are looking forward to an exciting final stretch of the school year!
