Mayor Scott Gillingham comes to read to ESWO

Our mayor, Scott Gillingham, visited Ecole Sir William Osler on February 27, 2023, to read to all of the students for I Love to Read month. He read the story “Beautiful You, Beautiful Me” by Winnipeg author Tasha Spillett-Sumner. The story about a multiracial child navigating identity and belonging draws from the author's own experience growing up as Afro-Indigenous. The story and illustrations show the girl's journey as she learns to celebrate differences that make her uniquely beautiful and the connection to her mother that transcends physical traits. 

All students in the school, including the daycare students, came to the gym to hear the reading of the story.  Mayor Gillingham then graciously took time to answer a wide variety of questions. At the end of the visit, Mayor Gillingham generously presented the school with a signed copy of the book for the school library.
