Room 4 ~ Grade 1

April 30, 2024

Welcome to Room 4

Grades 1 - 6 2023 School Supply List.pdf

Wow, I can’t believe there are only 2 months left of school!

In April, students worked really hard on their opinion writing unit and wrote reviews of their favourite books. Students chose a book that is special to them and wrote their personal opinion telling why their book should win an award. In reading, students are building their reading stamina and reading to partners using a smooth, fluent and storytelling voice. We continue our small word work groups. Students are working on specific spelling patterns and listening to individual sounds and sound parts to help strengthen our writing and reading skills.

The mathematicians in room 4 have been working on developing efficient counting strategies and number sense. Students participate in a daily 15-minute math warm up. Students are becoming efficient when  choosing mental math strategies to help solve addition and subtraction equations. Ask your child to prove/show their work, using a number line, part-part whole boxes and/or use a drawing.

For our Roots and Shoots project, the students have been busy learning researching by reading and watching videos about pollinators. We are coming up with ways that we can protect them in our community. We will be continuing to go on our Elmwood Community walks, now that it’s warmer. Please come dressed for the weather.

Just a reminder to check Seesaw messages, as we post family announcements about up coming events happening at the school. Keep up the great work room 4! I can’t wait to see all the learning that will happen throughout the last 2 months of school!
