Hi Room 35 families, I am so thankful for all of the families that took time out of their day to come and visit the room during Student-Led Conferences. The kids really enjoyed showing all of their learning.

In readers workshop, we have been talking about reading words that have more than one syllable. Did you know that at least 7 different ways to break apart a word into different syllable types. Ask your child if they know the difference between an open and a closed syllable.

In writers workshop, we are currently working on our Dream unit. Students are showing off their creative side as they plan fiction stories that take place within a dream setting. We are going to be publishing our stores. The kids will have the option to either turn their story into a comic or a      published book.

In math, we are still exploring multiplication and division strategies. When students believe that they have mastered a skill they check-in with me at my desk. They get a smelly sticker in their multiplication books when they prove they can apply the concept.

In social studies, we are currently learning about the 7 continents and where they are place around the world. After spring break, we are going to be researching different countries. Students have been getting interested in countries around the world by looking up famous landmarks on Google Earth.

In roots + shoots, as a class we chose our project. We are going to learn about a charity called K9 Advocated Manitoba which supports with the overpopulation of dogs in northern Manitoban communities. To learn more about how to help stray dogs, we are planning on going on a field trip to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
