École River Heights School

Bringing Life to the Stage: Improving ERHS Theatre Facilities

Funding for this project will support improvements to École River Heights Middle School's Theatre with technological updates in lighting and multimedia capabilities. The project allows for crosscurricular learning integrating student projects and skills across subject areas. These improvements will also foster school, family, and greater community connections, allowing students to share learning and performances. Funding is for supplies and equipment not available at school (Technical Equipment).

École Garden Grove School

Reconciliation Garden

The project will support the creation of an outdoor area in front of the school that will be used as learning space as well as a site for reflection. The student body has developed and created the area, using the theme of Reconciliation through the use of the Medicine Wheel, the Circle of Courage and the Seven Teachings. Stones, the colour of the Medicine Wheel and the engravings of each of the Teachings on the stones, will be incorporated, and each student will create their own individual mosaic tile which represents the healing process toward reconciliation. Funding is Artist's Fee/Guest Speaker, Supplies not available in school.

Mikiwapi Kiskinomatowikamik - The Tipi Place of Learning

The project supports the expansion of Indigenous knowledge across all curricula and for all students and staff at DMCI. The project will also help fund the outdoor classroom space for diversity, learning and teaching. A Tipi will be constructed to be used as a permanent outdoor classroom space, which will provide an opportunity for Indigenous students to take a leadership role in Indigenous Education. Funding is Supplies not available in school.

Grade 9 Leadership/Cooperative Learning Camp at Camp Arnes
The project objective is to provide grade 9 students with an opportunity to further develop their team building/collaboration and leadership skills through a variety of outdoor activities and experiences. It is a time to challenge oneself, demonstrate leadership, and a time to celebrate relationships that have been developed. Funding is Equipment Rental/Instruction, Camp accommodations/rental/fees.

The project objective is to provide students an opportunity to foster the love of outdoor physical activities, in an outdoor camp environment. Camp also provides students an opportunity to build peer relationships and build community spirit that they can bring back to the classroom. Funding supports Camp accommodations/rental/fees.

Camp Manitou
This project has two objectives. One is to provide students in grades 5 and 6 with an experience of overnight camp. The other is for grade 4 students to experience camp, in a day excursion to Camp Manitou. Students at camp engage in many outdoor activities they may not otherwise have exposure to, and many of these activities integrate curricular outcomes in Outdoor Education and ESD. Camp also promotes a sense of community, provides leadership training, self-esteem and confidence. Funds support Camp accommodations/rental/fees.

This project will provide students with learning experiences beyond the classroom, within our city and their community, through experiential opportunities. Students are provided a variety of activities throughout the year, ranging from bowling, cross-country skiing, tennis, golfing, just to name a few. The funds will support Student Admissions at a number of venues.

The project objective is to provide students with the opportunity to learn new skills related to outdoor sports and activities. Some activities are new to students; therefore, leadership and collaboration must be used so that students have a successful experience. The project provides an opportunity for students to experience outdoor camp, in a natural environment, and participate in activities they may not otherwise have. Students will develop appreciation and respect for nature, and they will develop environmentally sustainable behaviours. This project is an opportunity to take 60 students to Camp Stephens. Camp Stephens offers a unique wilderness experience. Students will participate in a wide variety of activities, where they are expected to use lessons learned in Science, Music, Drama and Technology, in conjunction with the new skills they learn at camp. Funding will support Supplies not available in schoool, Camp accommodations/Fees/Rentals.

The objective of this project is to educate and promote active engagement in activities from health related themes. Pet Empathy/Therapy
This project will build student capacity in empathy, emotional needs of self and others, personal space, conflict and stress, through a series of workshops. The Pet Therapy program is an animalassisted therapy in partnership with the Winnipeg Humane Society. The Pet Empathy program is designed to coincide with MB Education curriculum core competencies. Funding will support Fee for Service/Performance.
