Room 3

June 25, 2024

May was a busy month in our classroom. We have been learning about word families (bat, cat, mat, sat, hat, etc). The students have been exploring ways to spell new words by changing the beginning sound and applying their alphabet knowledge when reading and writing new words. We have created our own books, as well as participated in centres for sorting, matching, and printing words. Learning about word families has also enhanced our rhyming skills.  We also have continued to explore our math centres focusing on simple addition and subtraction. Students have been playing hands on games including dice, dominoes, unifix cubes, and fingers to practice their skills. Students have also been learning to print numbers while participating in math activities.  We had a really great day at the farm! Students had the opportunity to hold and pet a variety of baby animals including baby chicks, kittens, bunnies, and puppies. They also had the chance to ride a pony, watch a sheep shearing (haircut), and milk a goat. In our classroom we have been learning more about some of these animals through reading books, and students have enjoyed playing with farm animal toys during choice time.  As we enter the last month of our school year, I would like to thank you all for a great year of learning! It has been a pleasure being part of your child’s learning journey. I would like to wish everyone a wonderful summer holiday and all the best next school year!
